Birth statistics are produced using information recorded when live births are registered in England and Wales as part of civil registration, a legal requirement. These statistics represent births that took place during each calendar year, but also include a very small number of late registrations from the previous year.

We have published the number of live births by date from 1995 to 2016 for England and Wales (combined) as part of a previous customer enquiry, which can be found via the following link:

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with the number of babies born on Christmas day 2017 to 2019, nor data from 2014 to 2019 broken down by location. In order to fulfil this request, we would need use a high level of statistical skill and judgement in order to create a bespoke analysis or table. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.
