  • Seasonally adjusted, the UK’s deficit on trade in goods and services was £4.2 billion in August, compared with a deficit of £1.7 billion in July.

  • The deficit on trade in goods was £9.8 billion in August, compared with a deficit of £7.3 billion in July.

  • The surplus on seasonally adjusted trade in services was estimated at £5.7 billion in August, compared with a surplus of £5.6 billion in July.

  • The deficit on trade in goods with EU countries was £4.9 billion in August, compared with a deficit of £4.4 billion in July.

  • The deficit on trade in goods with non-EU countries was £5.0 billion in August, compared with a deficit of £2.9 billion in July.

The Monthly Review of External Trade Statistics is intended to supplement the information contained in the monthly National Statistics Statistical Bulletin on UK trade. This August 2012 issue of the monthly review is consistent with the figures shown in the UK Trade Statistical Bulletin of 9 October 2012.
