The output PPI for March 2012 was affected by Budget increase in taxation of tobacco (coming into effect from 21 March 2012) and alcoholic drinks (coming into effect from 26 March 2012). Due to to the timing of these increases, if passed on in full and immediately, these changes in excise duty are estimated to have added less than 0.1 per cent to the overall output index in March 2012.
The United Kingdom Statistics Authority has designated these statistics as National Statistics, in accordance with the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 and signifying compliance with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics.
