Detailed estimates data on internal migration within England and Wales by Origin and Destination Local Authority, Sex and Single Year of Age, Year Ending June 2011. The dataset includes records of estimated internal migration moves by age and sex between local authorities in England and Wales. The dataset also includes moves to and from local authorities in England and Wales to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The overall detailed estimates dataset includes a total of 2,474,809 records which have been made available in three separate zip files. To form one single data file the three zip files need to be downloaded and merged.
The data contained in the detailed estimates dataset is used in the production of the mid-2011 standard tabular outputs.
It is stressed that these estimates, which are based on several data sources, include modelled components and are not exact counts. Further adjustments to small cell values are made to protect against disclosure. These adjustments mean that a flow shown as zero was not necessarily zero in the original data. Further adjustments are made to some ages to prevent inference of a migrant's age.
Due to differences in methodologies, internal migration moves for total flows into and out of Scotland and Northern Ireland included in this release are likely to be different to equivalent outputs published by National Records of Scotland and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.
The administrative data used in the production of internal migration estimates is not primarily collected for statistical purposes and therefore aspects such as methods and definitions can be changed by data suppliers outside the control of ONS.
These National Statistics are produced to high professional standards and released according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
