Correction Note 24/05/12
A typing error was discovered in the key points within Index of Services March 2012 statistical bulletin, originally published at 9.30am on 24 May 2012. The key point affected is the final point 'Between February 2012 and March 2012, service sector output decreased by 0.5 per cent', this statement should have been 'increased'.
All associated text, growth rates and publication tables were correct at the time of publishing, and the error has now been corrected. ONS apologises for any inconvenience caused.

The seasonally adjusted Index of Services increased by 0.8 per cent in March 2012 compared with March 2011.

All of the four service sector components increased in the most recent month compared with the same month a year ago.

Government & other services rose by 1.1 per cent and transport, storage and communication rose by 1.4 per cent. These were the largest contributions to the increase.

Between February 2012 and March 2012, service sector output increased by 0.5 per cent.
