The experimental Index of Labour Costs per Hour (ILCH) increased by 0.9 per cent in Q1 2012 compared with the same quarter a year earlier at whole economy level.

The growth in wage costs per hour worked was 0.8 per cent, while non-wage costs per hour worked increased by 1.5 per cent.

Public sector labour costs (per hour) increased at a faster rate than those of the private sector. The growth in labour costs per hour in the public sector was 2.2 per cent in Q1 2012, compared with 0.9 per cent in the private sector.

Also known as Labour Costs Index (LCI). Measures changes in the average labour costs per hour worked. Labour costs include wages and salaries as well as employer social contributions, maternity, paternity and sick pay and benefits in kind.
