This release describes the method currently used by the Office for National Statistics to estimate the number of occupational pension schemes from the Occupational Pension Schemes Survey (OPSS). It then outlines a proposed new methodology and presents a table, using data from 2007- 2009, comparing the scheme count estimates using both methodologies. It is proposed to repeat the analysis when the 2010 data becomes available.
These National Statistics are produced to high professional standards and released according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
