News Release: Census gives insights into characteristics of the North East’s population 11-Dec-2012
Statistics published today from the 2011 Census reveal the changing characteristics of the population in every region of England and Wales and the 348 local authorities that form them. These statistics cover topics such as ethnicity, religion, country of birth, health, accommodation, tenure, and availability of cars and vans. Further details are given in the Statistical Bulletin and accompanying tables.

  • Overcrowding and Under-occupation in England and Wales 17-Apr-2014
    Occupancy ratings by household type in England and Wales, 2011 Census analysis. An occupancy rating shows whether a household is overcrowded or under-occupied. The analysis revealed that out of 23.4 million households, 1.1 million (4.5%) were overcrowded and that overcrowding was most likely to occur in socially rented (8.7%) and privately rented households (8.6%), compared to owner occupied (2.3%). However, most households (16.1 million) were under-occupied and 6.2 million had bedrooms at par with the standard. Owner occupied households were most likely to be under-occupied (82.7%), compared with privately rented (49.5%) and socially rented households (39.4%).

  • 2011 Census Analysis - Cycling to Work 26-Mar-2014
    This report assesses cycling to work by residents of England and Wales using the results of the 2011 Census. Changes since 2001 are analysed, while cycling by workers resident in London is compared to cycling by workers resident in the rest of England and Wales. The characteristics of people cycling to work are also assessed including age, sex and distance travelled to work.
  • 2011 Census Analysis - Distance Travelled to Work 26-Mar-2014
    This report assesses distance travelled to work by residents of England and Wales using the results of the 2011 Census. As well as assessing changes to the average commuting distance since 2001, increases in the number of people reporting to have no fixed place of work are also analysed.
