The data contained in these tables are numbers of enterprises and local units produced from a snapshot of the Inter Departmental Business Register (IDBR) taken on 12 March 2012. The data in these tables are taken from the ONS Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR). Foreign ownership information is provided by Dun and Bradstreet. The level of foreign ownership is shown for national, UK constituent countries, regions and local authorities (Part 1 workbook Table 1 and 2) covering enterprises and local unit counts, employment and, for enterprises, turnover. More detailed tables showing foreign ownership by broad industry group (Part 1 workbook Tables 3 and 4), foreign country of ownership (intermediate and ultimate) (Part 1 workbook tables 5-6), employment size bands (tables 7-8), and showing EU and non-EU foreign ownership (Part 1 workbook tables 9-10) are all shown down to regional level. Information is also shown for the UK and constituent countries.

This product includes births, deaths and survivals of UK enterprises. The active stock of businesses is also shown, so that birth and death rates can be calculated.
