Regional estimates of internal migration (that is migration between areas in the UK) are published each quarter. These quarterly estimates provide an update, though with less geographical detail, of the annual internal migration estimates by local authorities. The annual internal migration estimates are used in the production of the mid-year population estimates for local authorities and are considered more reliable than these quarterly estimates as they include an adjustment to account for the tendency of students not to appear in the administrative sources used to derive the estimates.
