In 1974, 45% of the population aged 16 and older were cigarette smokers compared with 20% in 2011, according to data from the General Lifestyle Survey (GLF), formerly known as the General Household Survey (GHS).

This summary presents one-year and five-year relative survival (per cent) for adults (aged 15-99 years) diagnosed with 1 of the 21 most common cancers in England during 2005-2009 and followed up to 2010. These cancers comprise over 90 per cent of all newly diagnosed cancers. Data are presented by sex, by age group and for all ages combined, both un-standardised and age-standardised.
