The Economic Position of Households is a quarterly publication which aims to give data users the opportunity to consider the interaction of household income and expenditure and the main drivers of the observed trends.

This note draws together key economic stories from National Statistics produced over the latest month. This is in order to paint a coherent picture of the UK economic performance using recent economic data.

This release presents information about the investment choices of insurance companies, self-administered pension funds, investment trusts, unit trusts and property unit trusts. Reported in this release are quarterly net investment data arising from financial transactions (investments) made by these institutional groups. Also included are quarterly balance sheet data for short-term assets and liabilities, along with quarterly income and expenditure data for insurance companies and self-administered pension funds. All data are reported at current prices (effects of price changes included).

This statistical bulletin, produced by the Office for National Statistics every quarter, shows the net rate of return on capital employed for UK private non-financial corporations (PNFCs) related to their UK operations. Sub-sector data are included covering UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) PNFCs, manufacturing and service companies. Underlying data are provided for the total PNFCs sector and the sub-sectors for gross operating surplus, capital consumption, net operating surplus, and gross and net average capital employed.

United Kingdom Economic Accounts Q4 2011 Correction Notice - 2 April 2012 A production error was discovered in table A1 of UK Economic Accounts, 2011 Q4, originally published on 28th March 2012. The GVA at factor cost series (YBHH) and its associated growth rate series (KGN5, KGN6 and KGN7) were incorrect for the four quarters of 2011 and for the year 2011 as a whole. No other series are affected. This error has now been corrected. ONS apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Annual income and expenditure data for insurance companies are also reported at this time.

UK Economic Accounts - the quarterly national accounts publication brings together recently published data on national and financial accounts and the balance of payments

The phrase 'Pre-release Access' refers to the practice whereby official statistics in their final form, and any accompanying written commentary, are made available to an eligible person in advance of their publication. The rules and principles which govern pre-release access are featured within the Pre-release Access to Official Statistics Order 2008.

Data on capital employed by Private Non-Financial Corporations (PNFCs). Contains annual, net and gross rates of return (expressed as percentages) on capital used by PNFCs. Sub-sector data are included covering UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) PNFCs, manufacturing and service companies. Underlying data are provided for the total PNFCs sector and the sub-sectors for gross operating surplus, capital consumption, net operating surplus, and gross and net average capital employed.

This article explains changes to way the UK and Ireland treat the activities of a group of cross border bodies created following the Belfast Agreement in 1998. These bodies have historically been treated as international organisations, and treated as outside of the UK economic territory. Following discussions with Eurostat and Central Statistical Office, Ireland ONS has agreed to change they way it treats these bodies, bringing them into the national accounts as part of General Government, from their creation.
