Pre-release access list for Pension Trends Chapter 12 , 2012 edition

This chapter looks at the resources from private pension savings and state benefit income (including state pension). The chapter is designed to show the value of the pension resources of pensioner households in the UK and, in particular, the distribution of these resources. The analyses also give breakdowns by age band and annual payments received. Comparisons between single male and female pensioners are made, as well as with pensioner couples.

This article analyses some of the key trends in the income of retired households between 1977 and 2010/11. This publication is being released alongside more in-depth analysis of the incomes of retired households and pensioners in the biennial chapters 11 - 13 of the publication Pension Trends.

This release contains the main tables from The Effects of Taxes and Benefits on Household Income publication for 1977 onwards. These tables have been reproduced using the new modified-OECD income equivalisation scale that has been used in this publication from 2009/10.
