Population Estimates

This short story describes the provision of unpaid care by males and females in England and Wales during 2011 and how this varies with age, general health status and economic activity across English regions and Wales. This story is also accompanied by an infographic and video podcast.

Mid-2002 to Mid-2010 Subnational Population Estimates for England and Wales revised.

This bulletin presents the 2011 mid-year population estimates for lower layer and middle layer Super Output Areas (LSOA and MSOA respectively), which are small areas within England and Wales. It also describes recent changes, the impact of these changes on local areas within England and Wales and population age distributions within these areas.

Population estimates for ages 90 and over by single year of age and sex for ages 90-104 and grouped for ages 105 and over.

This release provides key 2011 Census estimates that describe the usual resident population (as at March 2011) of national parks in Wales. The 35 Key Statistics tables included provide census estimates for the populations within the exact boundaries of the three national parks in Wales.

This article reviews existing methods employed by various countries in the use of administrative data to make adjustments to, or set plausibility ranges around, population estimates or census data. The work was carried out to explore techniques that could be used by the ONS in application with population estimates. An annex also covers benefits and difficulties that have been experienced when producing a register-based census, or population estimates.
