This bulletin presents statistics on live births in England and Wales in 2011 by parents’ country of birth. In particular, it reports the ten most common countries of birth for non-UK born mothers and fathers, the age of mothers by country of birth as well as total fertility rates for UK born and non-UK born women. The percentage of births to non-UK born mothers is also provided at local authority level.

Presents data on birth registrations in England and Wales by characteristics of birth. This package contains statistics on month and quarter of occurrence, multiple births and place of birth.

Presents data on birth registrations in England and Wales by characteristics of the mother. This package contains birth statistics by age of mother, type of registration (within marriage/civil partnership, joint, sole), and mean age of mother by birth order.

We have calculated two new sets of weights applicable to the General Household Survey (GHS) from 1979 to 2007. One of these is for use with any general analysis of GHS topics and the second is designed for analyses of data collected in the Family Information section. The methods used follow closely those employed by ONS from 1996 onwards. The performance of the weights is assessed in estimating the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) from 1971-2007, an aggregate measure of fertility for which reliable figures are available at national level from vital registration statistics. Our weights improve the GHS estimates, reducing bias both in the TFR and in age-specific fertility rates.
