This bulletin, 2011 Census Detailed Characteristics for England and Wales, supplements the release of the Key Statistics in December 2012 and Quick Statistics in January 2013. It presents findings for England and Wales drawn from the first release of detailed Characteristics tables that provide cross tabulations of two or more topics from the census. The 2011 Census statistics covered are unique because the census is the only information source that measures these characteristics together across the whole population.

This short story analyses 2011 Census data for two key measures of the migrant population of England and Wales, specifically country of birth and passports held. Additionally migrant groups are analysed by age, sex and year of arrival.

This release provides key 2011 Census estimates that describe the usual resident population (as at March 2011) of national parks in Wales. The 35 Key Statistics tables included provide census estimates for the populations within the exact boundaries of the three national parks in Wales.

This release presents recent estimates of the number of families by type, people in families by family type and children in families by type. Types of family include married couple families, cohabiting couple families and lone parent families. Tables on household size, household types and people in different household types are also provided. These include estimates of people living alone and multi-family households.

This bulletin, the ‘Number of people with second addresses in local authorities in England and Wales’, provides the number of usual residents in England and Wales who reported having a second address outside of the local authority in which they were usually resident. It provides information about the number of people who spend more than 30 days a year at a second address, in a local authority where they do not usually live
