Workless households down by 153,000 to 3.7 million. Read more....
Workless households were down by 153,000 to 3.7 million in 2012. This story provides information on the change since 1996, a period when workless households were in general decline before the 2008/09 recession. It then shows that people who live in socially rented housing are far more likely to be in a workless household than those who are owner occupiers.
In 2012 there were 5.02 million people aged 16 to 64 living in workless househods and a further 1.75 million children aged 0 to 15. The main reason people gave for not being in work in these households was being disabled or sick.
