UK Environmental Accounts - World Wetlands Day 2014
This short video explores the Office for National Statistics programme of Natural Capital and World Wetlands Day. The 2nd of February marks World Wetlands Day, celebrating the signing of the Convention on Wetlands in the Iranian city of Ramsar, 43 years ago. In conjunction with Defra, the ONS aims to physically account for and estimate the monetary value of eight broad habitats by 2020. This video looks at how wetlands will be introduced into these accounts under the Freshwater habitat category.

Reallocated Energy and Energy Intensity, 1990-2010 (Excel sheet 147Kb)
Energy from nuclear, imports and renewable & waste sources is combined with fossil fuel use. Electricity transformation & distribution losses are reallocated to final consumer industry group. Energy consumption is given in million tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe) and terajoules (TJ). Energy intensity is then calculated in Terajoules (TJ) per £ million using the constant price measure of Gross Value Added, the contribution of individual industries to Gross Domestic Product.

World Environment Day, 2012
The United Nations World Environment Day is on the 5 June 2012. The theme this year is the Green Economy: Does it include you? This summary of UK Environmental Accounts Blue Book 2011 Update data has been released by the Office for National Statistics for this event to show how the UK Environmental Accounts provide data on how the economy impacts on the Environment. The summary includes statistics on emissions per unit of energy consumed, how this has changed over the last two decades and explains how this is the result of switching to cleaner fuels. It also provides information on the use of renewable sources for energy consumption in the UK and the amount of energy supplied per person compared to other countries. This summary is produced as part of the Measuring National Well-being programme.
