Central and Local Government

This release contains updated estimates for total healthcare expenditure in the UK between 1997 and 2011. Estimates are in current prices.

This release provides estimates of R&D performed by the following four sectors of the economy, as defined in the Frascati manual, Business Enterprise (BERD), Higher Education (HERD), Government (GovERD) which includes Research Councils, and Private Non-Profit (PNP) organisations. All these sectors’ (Business, Government, Higher Education and Private Non-Profit) R&D data are known collectively as GERD, which represents the gross domestic expenditure on R&D in the UK.

There are two tables of UK Electoral Statistics reflecting the number of electors registered to vote in the UK on 16 October 2012 (England (except London) and Wales) or 1 December 2012 (London, Scotland and Northern Ireland). Table 1 outputs local government electors by local government areas. Local government areas are unitary authorities, London boroughs and district councils in England

This release contains updated output, inputs and productivity estimates for publicly-funded healthcare in the UK between 1995 and 2010. It provides analysis of healthcare output by component and describes the impact of the quality-adjustment factor that is applied. Healthcare inputs are analysed by component.

Measuring National Well-being: Life in the UK 2012 provides a unique overview of well-being in the UK today. The report is the first snapshot of life in the UK to be delivered by the Measuring National Well-being programme and will be updated and published annually. Well-being is discussed in terms of the economy, people and the environment. Information such as the unemployment rate or number of crimes against the person are presented alongside data on people’s thoughts and feelings, for example, satisfaction with our jobs or leisure time and fear of crime. Together, a richer picture on ‘how society is doing’ is provided

This bulletin contains an overview of Civil Service employment statistics as at 31 March 2011. Statistics are presented on a range of factors including the gender, ethnicity, disability status, earnings and location of the Civil Service workforce.

Productivity is measured by dividing an index of the volume of output by an index of the volume of inputs. Productivity, output and inputs measures are calculated for total public services and by service area.
