    This bulletin, 2011 Census Detailed Characteristics for England and Wales, supplements the release of the Key Statistics in December 2012 and Quick Statistics in January 2013. It presents findings for England and Wales drawn from the first release of detailed Characteristics tables that provide cross tabulations of two or more topics from the census. The 2011 Census statistics covered are unique because the census is the only information source that measures these characteristics together across the whole population.

These are the revised mid-2002 to mid-2010 population estimates for England and Wales. The estimates have been revised in light of the 2011 Census.
Reference table: Provisional Long Term International Migration (LTIM) estimates Sep 2012 (Excel sheet 567Kb) 23-May-2013
This product shows estimates of long-term international migration for the UK from the year ending Dec 02 to the year ending Sep 12. Data for 2012 is provisional. The tables and charts show the time series for immigration, emigration and net migration (the difference between immigration and emigration). Table 1 and Table 2 contain estimates of Long-Term International Migration (LTIM) by citizenship and by main reason for migration. LTIM is the most comprehensive measure of long-term international migration and is primarily based on the International Passenger Survey (IPS), with some adjustments. As detailed analyses on the characteristics of migrants are not possible from LTIM, Table 3 contains a cross tabulation of citizenship by main reason for migration based on IPS data only
Reference table: Birth Summary Tables - England and Wales, 2011 (Final) (Excel sheet 277Kb) 17-Oct-2012
The tables contain data for numbers of live births, fertility rates, percentage of births outside marriage/civil partnership, sex ratio, mean age of mother, area of usual residence of mother and country of birth of mother and father.

Death statistics reported include counts of deaths by age and sex and by selected cause. Standardised mortality ratios and infant mortality rates by area of usual residence are also included.

    STIM tables contain detailed information on the characteristics of short-term international migrants. Table STIM.06 is based on information collected by the International Passenger Survey (IPS) at the end of a migrant's visit to England and Wales plus information from several administrative data sources. Estimates are provided for migrations meeting the United Nations definition of short-term migration and are for inflows only. This table shows the estimates of the overall flows into England and Wales by migrants' main reason for migration (employment or study) distributed, using the administrative data, down to regional and local authority level. Estimates are available for mid years (July to June) 2008 to 2011.
