Statistical bulletin: Annual Business Survey, 2012 Provisional Results 14-Nov-2013
This release provides an estimate of the size and growth of the UK Non-Financial Business Economy for 2012 as measured by the Annual Business Survey (ABS). It is the key resource for understanding the detailed structure, conduct and performance of businesses across the UK. The release covers: • Non-Financial Services; • Distribution; • Production; • Construction; • Parts of Agriculture. Together these industries represent the UK Non-Financial Business Economy and account for around two thirds of the whole economy of the UK in terms of Gross Value Added. Public administration and defence, public sector health and education, finance and parts of agriculture make up the difference between the UK Non-Financial Business Economy and the whole economy.
Statistical bulletin: Business Enterprise Research and Development, 2012 22-Nov-2013
This release provides estimates of businesses' expenditure and employment relating to R&D performed in the UK in 2012, irrespective of the residence of the ultimate owner or user of the R&D produced.

    Estimates of R&D performed by the following four sectors of the economy, as defined in the Frascati manual, Business Enterprise (BERD), Higher Education (HERD), Government (GovERD) which includes Research Councils, and Private Non-Profit (PNP) organisations. All these sectors’ (Business, Government, Higher Education and Private Non-Profit) R&D data are known collectively as GERD, which represents the gross domestic expenditure on R&D in the UK.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions Involving UK Companies, Q4 2013 04-Mar-2014
    This statistical bulletin provides estimates of the value and numbers of mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving UK companies with values of £1.0 million or more. The information provided reflects solely the change in majority ownership (ordinary shares) and therefore only transactions which result in a change of ultimate control of the target company are included. See note 5 of the Background Notes for more detail.

The data contained in these tables are numbers of enterprises and local units produced from a snapshot of the Inter Departmental Business Register (IDBR) taken on 12 March 2013. The publication contains tables on local units and enterprises by geography, industry, legal status and employment size band. Additional tables at enterprise level provide information by age of business and turnover size band.

This spreadsheet forms part of the Annual Business Survey 2012 Provisional Release and provides a breakdown at Standard Industrial Classification 2007 Division level, for total turnover, approximate gross value added, total purchases and total employment costs. The spreadsheet covers production, construction, distribution, services and parts of agriculture, which comprise the UK Non-Financial Business Economy. Together these industries represent around two thirds of the whole economy of the UK in terms of gross value added. Public administration and defence, public sector health and education and parts of agriculture and finance make up the difference between the UK Business Economy and the whole economy.
