Subtopic: Economic Value of Tourism

This release is part of a series of short articles about various aspects of employment in tourism characteristic industries in the UK.

This article presents an analysis of Annual Population Survey data for 2010 and 2011 that charts the distribution of employment in tourism industries across regions and sub-regions of the UK.

This report details the Tourism Satellite Account for the UK for the reference year 2009. Revised figures for the 2008 Tourism Satellite Account have also been included where there have been changes in methodology.

This supply side of tourism report for 2009 provides analysis of the tourism industries: those activities that provide goods and services to visitors. The report examines the gross output and GVA of the tourism industries before examining trends and characteristics of employment in those industries. The report also provides an analysis of the demography of tourism industries in terms of the size of firms.

This report from the Tourism Intelligence Unit (TIU) at the Office for National Statistics examines the value of tourism in the regions and sub-regions of the UK. We consider both the supply and demand sides of tourism in this report and attempt to reconcile these at the regional and sub-regional levels for the whole of the UK.

This report from the Tourism Intelligence Unit at ONS details work undertaken during 2011 that has been concerned with a review and appraisal of sustainable tourism indicators. This review has drawn on a wide range of examples of such indicators currently in use, from an international and domestic perspective. This report represents the first stage in this work and we are now moving to a more indepth analysis of the sustainable tourism indicators suggested here.
