Mid-2008 cohabitation population estimates (Excel sheet 24Kb)
02-Aug-2010The cohabitation estimates compliment the published legal marital status population estimates. They show the numbers in each marital status category who are estimated to be in an, opposite-sex, co-residential cohabiting partnership. The cohabitation estimates are produced by age and sex for adults aged 16 and over. They are produced on an ad hoc basis at the same time as marital status population projections. The statistics show that there were 4.7 million people in England and Wales who were cohabiting with an opposite-sex partner in 2008. For further information, please contact families@ons.gov.uk.
