Government Deficit and Debt Under the Maastricht Treaty, September 2012
28-Sep-2012EU Member Governments have to report their actual and planned government deficits, and the levels of their debt, promptly to the European Commission, to specific deadlines twice each year. The estimates in this statistical bulletin have been supplied to the European Commission by ONS in accordance with the schedules in the Excessive Deficit Procedure. Forecasts for future years are provided separately by HM Treasury.

Classification of Irish North-South Bodies, September 2011
30-Sep-2011This article explains changes to way the UK and Ireland treat the activities of a group of cross border bodies created following the Belfast Agreement in 1998. These bodies have historically been treated as international organisations, and treated as outside of the UK economic territory. Following discussions with Eurostat and Central Statistical Office, Ireland ONS has agreed to change they way it treats these bodies, bringing them into the national accounts as part of General Government, from their creation.

19-Apr-2013European System of Accounts table 25 is a complete set of quarterly non-financial accounts of the general government sector compiled according to ESA95. Table 2501 provides a breakdown of general government expenditure (both current and capital) and Table 2502 provides a smiliar breakdown of general government revenue. Table 2502 also shows the general government net borrowing (B.9) which is the difference between total revenue and total expenditure. The quarterly data in these tables are consistent with the annual general government data in ESA table 2.

19-Apr-2013European System of Accounts table 2 is a complete set of annual non-financial accounts of the general government sector and its sub-sectors compiled according to ESA95. The difference between total revenue and total expenditure is the net lending/net borrowing (B.9), for both general government and the sub-sectors. At the same time B.9 is the balancing item of the capital account.
