The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in October 2012 was 43,172. This represents an increase of 7,949 deaths in comparison with the previous month and an increase of 5,972 deaths in comparison to the same month in 2011.
Moveable public holidays and the number of weekends, when register offices are closed, affect the number of registrations made in the published months and in the corresponding months in previous years.
Monthly death figures provide counts of the number of deaths registered by area of usual residence for England and Wales. Commentary on trends in annual mortality statistics can be found in Death registrations summary tables.
Before September 2012, tables were published monthly as Monthly provisional figures on deaths registered by area of usual residence, England and Wales. The data years available include June 2011 - August 2012.
