This release provides tools to help analysis of commuter flows between local authorities in Great Britain in 2010 and 2011. Estimates of commuter flows were calculated using data from the Annual Population Survey. Three interactive commuter flows tools are available from the Neighbourhood Statistics Service website, click on the title of each of the following three products to access them:
Commuter flows mapping tool: Product displaying local authority commuter flows on an interactive map, bar chart and table. The data in this product include total inflows, total outflows and net flows. These help to visualise the movement of the workforce around Great Britain and in each region and country within it.
Spider map of local authority commuter flows : An interactive map displaying all commuter flow links for any selected local authority in Great Britain. The map enables users to select a local authority of interest and view the total number of commuters travelling between that area and other local authorities.
Bar chart of local authority commuter flows: An interactive bar chart displaying the top ten proportionate commuter flows for every local authority in Great Britain. Users can select any local authority, whether to view flows for 2010 or 2011, and whether to look at the proportions of outflows or inflows. To help demonstrate variability, the chart also displays the 95% confidence intervals for each estimated commuter flow.
