Survey name(s): Services Producer Price Index (SPPI)
The Services Producer Price Index (SPPI) are primarily a suite of individual price indices that provide information on price change for a limited range of service industries. Each SPPI captures quarterly changes in the price received for services provided by UK businesses to other UK businesses and Government. These individual price indices are also aggregated together to create a 'service industry' SPPI with limited coverage.
The Office for National Statistics has recently undertaken a development programme to expand the industrial coverage of the SPPI. In 2011, new experimental price indices were published for legal, accountancy, architecture and engineering services and cargo handling (Phase 1 industries (147.7 Kb Pdf) ). Three additional indices were developed, namely for advertising, business and management and storage and warehousing (Phase 2 industries). An article presenting an overview of the methodology implemented for Phase 2 industries along with an update of the experimental price indices first published in June 2011 as well as introducing the results for the three additional indices developed is available on the SPPI guidance and methodology area (1.07 Mb Pdf) .
