Mid 2009 population estimates are available at national level by single year of age and sex and subnationally (local authority/health area) by five year age group and sex. These include additional selected age groups and broad components of population change.
The Population Estimates reflect the local authority administrative boundaries that were in place on for the reference year of the tables.
Definition of resident population:
The estimated resident population of an area includes all people who usually live there, whatever their nationality. Members of UK and non-UK armed forces stationed in the UK are included and UK forces stationed outside the UK are excluded. Students are taken to be resident at their term time address.
Population Estimates for England and Wales at national and subnational level for mid 2002 to mid 2010 have been revised in light of the 2011 census the revised national estimates were published on the 13 December 2012 and the revised subnational estimates were published on the 30th April 2013 both supersede the estimates in these tables.
