Employment up 283,000 compared with the previous quarter

Comparing January to March 2014 with the previous three months, there was a large rise in the number of employed people, and falls in both the number of people who were unemployed and the number of people not in the labour force.

Comparing January to March 2014 with the previous three months, the number of people in employment increased by 283,000 (to reach 30.43 million), the number of unemployed people fell by 133,000 (to reach 2.21 million) and the number of people not in the labour force (economically inactive) aged from 16 to 64 fell by 85,000 (to reach 8.85 million).
