This dataset contains series for the Claimant Count (which measures the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance) and vacancies. Claimant count and vacancies estimates are also available in spreadsheet format at:
CLA01: Claimant count summary. (296.5 Kb Excel sheet) The table provides estimates of the number of people claiming unemployment-related benefits; since October 1996 this has been the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA).
CLA02: Claimant count by age and duration. (460 Kb Excel sheet) The table provides estimates of the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance (JSA) by age, sex and duration of claim.
CLA03: Lone parent claimants of jobseeker's allowance. (64 Kb Excel sheet) The table provides estimates of the number of lone parents claiming jobseeker's allowance (JSA). These estimates are not designated as National Statistics.
CLA04: Claimant count revisions triangle. (1.58 Mb Excel sheet) This table provides a revisions triangle for the headline claimant count level.
VACS01: Vacancies and unemployment. (48 Kb Excel sheet) This table provides estimates of the number of unemployed people per vacancy.
VACS02: Vacancies by industry. (224.5 Kb Excel sheet) This table shows vacancies by industry according to Standard Industrial Classification 2007.
VACS03: Vacancies by size of business. (71 Kb Excel sheet) This table shows estimates of vacancies by size of business.
For most customers these spreadsheets are likely to be the most convenient way of accessing the data.
The Time Series dataset facility is primarily designed for users who wish to customise their own datasets. For example, users can use the Time Series Dataset facility to create a single spreadsheet including claimant count and vacancies series, rather than extracting the required data from the separate spreadsheets published on the website.
