Employment up 345,000 compared with the previous quarter

Comparing February to April 2014 with November 2013 to January 2014, there was a large increase in employment and a large fall in unemployment. There was a further fall in the number of economically inactive people aged from 16 to 64.

Comparing February to April 2014 with November 2013 to January 2014, the number of people in employment increased by 345,000 (to reach 30.54 million), the number of unemployed people fell by 161,000 (to reach 2.16 million) and the number of people not in the labour force (economically inactive) aged from 16 to 64 fell by 80,000 (to reach 8.82 million).
