The animated video with commentary shows:

  • the latest estimate of unemploymed young people aged 16 to 24 in the UK was 1.04 million in October to December 2011 or a rate of 22.2 per cent, and the difference between the rate and the unemployment proportion;

  • how increases in the participation in full-time education since the 1980s have impacted on the youth unemployment rate, also looking at unemployment by level of qualification;

  • how youth unemployment differs by age and level of qualification, and how the UK compares with other major EU countries.
