Release: Period and cohort life expectancy tables, 2006-based

Presents life expectancies on a period and cohort basis. Data is provided by age and sex from 1981 to 2056 for the UK and its constituent countries. These life expectancies have been calculated using historic mortality rates (from 1981 to 2006) and projected mortality rates from the 2006-based national population projections (for 2007 onwards). Information on the difference between period and cohort life expectancies can be found in the Guide to Period and Cohort Life Expectancies. Further information on the mortality assumptions used in the 2006-based national population projections is available from the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD).
