The seasonally adjusted Index of Services was estimated to have increased by 2.0 per cent in October 2012 compared with October 2011.

All four service sector components were estimated to have increased in the most recent month compared with the same month a year ago.

Business services & finance was estimated to have increased by 2.8 per cent and government & other services was estimated to have increased by 1.8 per cent. These were the largest contributions to the increase.

Between September 2012 and October 2012, service sector output was estimated to have increased by 0.1 per cent.

Index of Services shows the monthly movements in gross value added for the service industries, which overall account for around 77 per cent of UK Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
