Correction

Correction Note 24 May 2012

A typing error was discovered in the key points within Index of Services March 2012 statistical bulletin, originally published at 9.30am on 24 May 2012.  The key point affected is the final point 'Between February 2012 and March 2012, service sector output decreased by 0.5 per cent', this statement should have been 'increased'. 

All associated text, growth rates and publication tables were correct at the time of publishing, and the error has now been corrected. ONS apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Key points

The key points from this release are:
  • The seasonally adjusted Index of Services increased by 0.8 per cent in March 2012 compared with March 2011.

  • All of the four service sector components increased in the most recent month compared with the same month a year ago.

  • Government & other services rose by 1.1 per cent and transport, storage and communication rose by 1.4 per cent. These were the largest contributions to the increase.

  • Between February 2012 and March 2012, service sector output increased by 0.5 per cent.

Shows the monthly movements in gross value added for the service industries, which overall account for around 75 per cent of UK Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
