Latest figures from the CSEW show that there were an estimated 8.6 million incidents of crime against households and resident adults (aged 16 and over) in England and Wales for the year ending March 2013. This represents a 9% decrease compared with the previous year’s survey.
This latest estimate is the lowest since the survey began in 1981. The total number of CSEW incidents is estimated to have fallen by 14% compared with the 2007/08 survey, and is now less than half its peak level in 1995.
Current level of crime – Police recorded crime
The police recorded 3.7 million offences in the year ending March 2013, a decrease of 7% compared with the previous year. Police recorded crime figures continue to show year-on-year reductions and the latest figures are 38% lower than 2002/03.
