The total volume of construction output decreased by 2.5 per cent in October compared with the estimate for September (constant price, not seasonally adjusted), and fell by 2.7 per cent compared with October 2010.

The following compares the total output volume for the three months from August to October with that of the same three months one year ago, in constant prices, not seasonally adjusted:

  • Overall, the volume of construction output fell by 1.1 per cent (-£295M). New work fell by 1.8 per cent (-£340M) and repair and maintenance has risen by 0.5 per cent (+£44M).
  • The largest increase (11.5 per cent) was new infrastructure work (+£349M).
  • Private industrial new work showed the largest percentage fall of 13.5 per cent (-£130M).
  • The largest volume decrease was in public non housing new work which fell by 12.6 per cent (-£456M).

The Q3 2011/Q2 2011 growth in the constant price, seasonally adjusted series has increased from a fall of 0.2 per cent to a growth of 0.3 per cent. This increase is due to additional data returned by businesses, the receipt of new deflator information and the impact of seasonal adjustment.
