This release contains new Quick Statistics tables providing detailed breakdowns for some characteristics of the usual residents in England and Wales on 27 March 2011. The tables provide further detail on passports held, national identity, and country of birth to add to that provided in the Key Statistics and Quick Statistics tables published in December 2012. Information on approximated social grade is also provided for the first time, for household reference persons aged 16-64 only.
The Quick Statistics tables on national identity and passports held are provided as reference tables for England and Wales and for constituent regions, counties, London boroughs, districts and unitary authorities.
The Quick Statistics table on country of birth is provided as a reference table for England and Wales and for constituent regions.
The Quick Statistics table on approximated social grade is provided as a reference table for England and Wales and for constituent regions, counties, London boroughs, districts and unitary authorities. This table is available for wards and output areas on the Nomis website.
During 2013 ONS will release cross tabulations between characteristics, such as by age or ethnicity. This will provide an even richer and more valuable data source for the many users of the census.
Further information about the census estimates, including details about the methodology used and information about how other population sub-groups are counted and defined, is available in the 2011 Census user guide.
Further information on the fitness for purpose of the statistics in this release can be found in the Quality and Methodology Information paper.
These National Statistics are produced to high professional standards and released according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
