Report: 2011 Census Analysis - Comparing Rural and Urban Areas of England and Wales 22-Nov-2013
This report gives insights into the characteristics of urban and rural areas in England and Wales in 2011. The information is derived from the 2011 Census and analyses topics such as population change, age profile, ethnicity, occupation and housing tenure. Comparisons are made with the 2001 Census where possible.

Official statistics showing annual estimates of regional Gross Disposable Household Income (GDHI) released on 24th April 2013. This release contains analysis of GDHI estimates for NUTS1, NUTS2 and NUTS3 regions.

In order to gain an overview of the economic performance of UK regions and countries, this article discusses a selection of economic indicators. In this release a particular focus has been applied to how the regions/countries have fared through the economic downturn that began in 2008.

  • Overcrowding and Under-occupation in England and Wales 17-Apr-2014
    Occupancy ratings by household type in England and Wales, 2011 Census analysis. An occupancy rating shows whether a household is overcrowded or under-occupied. The analysis revealed that out of 23.4 million households, 1.1 million (4.5%) were overcrowded and that overcrowding was most likely to occur in socially rented (8.7%) and privately rented households (8.6%), compared to owner occupied (2.3%). However, most households (16.1 million) were under-occupied and 6.2 million had bedrooms at par with the standard. Owner occupied households were most likely to be under-occupied (82.7%), compared with privately rented (49.5%) and socially rented households (39.4%).

  • 2011 Census Analysis - Cycling to Work 26-Mar-2014
    This report assesses cycling to work by residents of England and Wales using the results of the 2011 Census. Changes since 2001 are analysed, while cycling by workers resident in London is compared to cycling by workers resident in the rest of England and Wales. The characteristics of people cycling to work are also assessed including age, sex and distance travelled to work.
  • 2011 Census Analysis - Distance Travelled to Work 26-Mar-2014
    This report assesses distance travelled to work by residents of England and Wales using the results of the 2011 Census. As well as assessing changes to the average commuting distance since 2001, increases in the number of people reporting to have no fixed place of work are also analysed.

Mid 2012 population estimates are available at UK, England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland level and subnationally (local authority) by single year of age and sex. These include additional detailed components of population change. The Population Estimates reflect the local authority administrative boundaries that were in place on 30 June of the reference year of the tables.

Official statistics showing annual estimates of NUTS1 regional Gross Value Added (GVA), Compensation of Employees (CoE) and Gross Operating Surplus (GOS). Tables show estimates of total GVA, GVA per head, GVA per head index and GVA by industry. Tables updated to include additional GVA per head and per head indices following the publication of revised mid-year population estimates for Scotland. A further update will be issued when the remaining population estimates become available.
