Status of the census in England and Wales
Issue date: 12 July 2010
Type: Statement
Plans are on track for the 2011 Census in England and Wales, to be held on 27 March 2011.
The census provides high quality information to be used by government and others to identify the needs of different communities, to allocate funding to local areas and to plan services. We expect high levels of public support for the census and look forward to a successful outcome.
In parallel, ONS can confirm that it has been considering alternatives to the traditional census as part of the 'Beyond 2011' project, but our priority is to make sure that we have a successful 2011 Census.
