Director General announces retirement

Director General of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Stephen Penneck, has announced that he is to retire from the post in September after 40 years in the Government Statistical Service.

Stephen says 'In September I will have worked in the Government Statistical Service for 40 years. I am particularly proud in the last few years to have been able to play a significant role in leading and shaping the office.'

Sir Michael Scholar says 'It has been a real privilege to work with Stephen over the last three years, and to witness his unwavering professionalism and deep commitment to the public service. The Board of the Statistics Authority joins me in wishing him a long and happy retirement.'

Arrangements for appointing his successor will begin shortly.
