Letter to The Times, 24 February 2014

Readers can have confidence in the impartiality of statistics from the 2011 England and Wales census, ("Home Office asked for alarming migration report to be changed", 24 February). The figures have to meet a strict Code of Practice for Official Statistics, including being objective. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) peer reviews draft publications with other statistical experts and the resulting statistics must comply with the Code.
