A combined approach to National Statistics Socio-economic Classification

This report (213.7 Kb Pdf) looks at tables in ONS’ infant mortality outputs that present live birth and infant mortality data by National Statistics Socio-economic Classification (NS-SEC). Historically, these tables are prepared based on the father’s occupation. This report assesses the impact of applying a combined approach to NS-SEC, where a household level classification is used (taking the highest NS-SEC in the household).
