Publicly Funded Inputs

The inputs team estimates the amount of resources used to provide public services. This involves gathering data from many sources including ONS and various government departments.

Estimates are produced in volume terms, either by measuring the volume directly (for example in the case of healthcare labour inputs) or by deflating expenditure to remove the effect of price changes. Inputs estimates are calculated for nine service areas: healthcare, education, adult social care, children’s social care, social security administration, police, public order and safety, defence, and other. We also produce an annual publication about Expenditure on healthcare in the UK.
