Monthly Business Survey (for Construction and Allied Trades)

Survey at a glance

Purpose

The Monthly Business Survey is a survey of businesses within the construction and allied trades sector in Great Britain.

The survey collects information about the value of new work and repair and maintenance, for both housing and non-housing projects carried out during the month and information about employment quarterly.

The results are used to monitor the performance of the industry and contribute to the calculation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

GDP is a key economic measure used by the Bank of England and HM Treasury to monitor and forecast economic growth and to inform vital policy decisions.

Results also contribute to a monthly Eurostat release on European Construction, allowing international comparisons of industry activity.
