    This report examines two similar data sets on short term migration: estimates of short-term immigration for local authorities and England and Wales and estimates of short-term residents (STRs) from the 2011 Census. These two datasets differ in terms of definitions and the estimates produced and this report aims to help the user understand these differences.

  • STIM.01 Flows by Main Reason for Migration, Mid 2004 to Mid 2011 23-May-2013
    STIM tables contain detailed information on the characteristics of short-term international migrants. Table STIM.01 is based on information collected by the International Passenger Survey (IPS) at the end of migrants' visits and contains information on migrant flows to and from England and Wales. Estimates are provided for migrations of one to twelve months, three to twelve months and migrations meeting the United Nations definition of short-term migration. This table shows estimates broken down by migrants' main reason for migration. Broad reason groupings are published. Estimates are available for mid years (July to June) 2004 to 2011.
