  • Measuring National Well-being - Children's well-being, 2013 04-Apr-2013
    The article ‘Measuring National Well-being - Children’s Well-being, 2012’ (ONSa) reported children’s views on some aspects of their lives. This was based on data from the first wave of Understanding Society, the UK Household Longitudinal Study (UKHLS).This summary further explores children’s reports of their well-being based on the second wave of the study (UKLS, 2011–12) and provides links to other sources of data about children’s well-being.
  • Measuring National Well-being - Older People’s Neighbourhoods, 2013 14-Mar-2013
    This is the first in a series of short articles examining the well-being of older people aged 50 and over using measures related to the Measuring National Well-being Programme. The Office for National Statistics measures of well-being are organised into ten domains with each domain having between three and five separate indicators. More information about all the measures can be found in the ‘National Well-being wheel of measures’.

  • Household Satellite Accounts, Valuing Informal Childcare in the UK 15-Feb-2013
    This article reports on the measurement and valuation of the output of the household production of childcare. This includes all care given by parents, family members, friends and focuses on the numbers of children looked after, rather than those giving the care. It is the first in a series of articles to update the full household satellite accounts (HHSA) for the UK. The methodology remains under development and any estimates reported here, or in forthcoming publications, should be considered experimental and interpreted with caution.
  • Measuring National Well-being: Life in the UK, 2012 20-Nov-2012
    Measuring National Well-being: Life in the UK 2012 provides a unique overview of well-being in the UK today. The report is the first snapshot of life in the UK to be delivered by the Measuring National Well-being programme and will be updated and published annually. Well-being is discussed in terms of the economy, people and the environment. Information such as the unemployment rate or number of crimes against the person are presented alongside data on people’s thoughts and feelings, for example, satisfaction with our jobs or leisure time and fear of crime. Together, a richer picture on ‘how society is doing’ is provided
