  • Special events in 2012: Impact of the Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympics on the UK economy 17-May-2013
    This article reviews the impact of the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 on related economic time series. It will look at the Production, Construction, Services, Retail Sales and Labour Market series to determine which sectors of the economy were most affected. It does not make any attempt to quantify the overall impact of these two events on economic growth, in line with the ONS Special Events policy.

    This bulletin, 2011 Census Detailed Characteristics for England and Wales, supplements the release of the Key Statistics in December 2012 and Quick Statistics in January 2013. It presents findings for England and Wales drawn from the first release of detailed Characteristics tables that provide cross tabulations of two or more topics from the census. The 2011 Census statistics covered are unique because the census is the only information source that measures these characteristics together across the whole population.

    This short story analyses 2011 Census data for two key measures of the migrant population of England and Wales, specifically country of birth and passports held. Additionally migrant groups are analysed by age, sex and year of arrival.

    This short story describes the provision of unpaid care by males and females in England and Wales during 2011 and how this varies with age, general health status and economic activity across English regions and Wales. This story is also accompanied by an infographic and video podcast.
  • What does the Census tell us about religion in 2011? 16-May-2013
    This story will explore some of the characteristics behind changes in religious affliation between 2001 and 2011 Census. Characteristics such as age, sex, ethnicity, country of birth and participation in economic activity will be explored. There is a particular focus on findings for Christians, Muslims and people with no religion.
