Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE)

Also known as Labour Costs Index (LCI). Measures changes in the average labour costs per hour worked. Labour costs include wages and salaries as well as employer social contributions, maternity, paternity and sick pay and benefits in kind.

This article presents summary analyses from the 2012 Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings and compares these against the 2011 estimates and, where relevant, with the 1997 to 2011 back series.

The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) is based on a 1% sample of employee jobs. This is drawn from HM Revenue and Customs Pay As You Earn (PAYE) records. This bulletin contains provisional results from the 2012 survey and revised results from the 2011 survey.
