ONS published the last issue of the journal Population Trends in September 2011.
In future all analytical articles on population and demographic themes will be published on the new ONS website, along with our regular outputs.
Items will be located within the Population taxonomy.
There will be several types of analysis:
1. Longer analytical and methodological articles. Recent examples of these are:
An article (537 Kb Pdf) reporting on analysis of the ‘golden cohort’ using the ONS Longitudinal Study
An article (93.7 Kb Pdf) summarising how administrative sources could be used to adjust population estimates and set plausibility ranges
2. Short stories. See for example:
A short story showing characteristics of emigrants from the UK using the Long Term International Migration (LTIM) estimates and the International Passenger Survey ( IPS)
A short story providing a comparison of the fertility rates and average age at childbirth in the four UK constituent countries
3. Video podcasts on population and migration-related themes; recent examples are:
A podcast summarising the latest statistics on older people in the UK
A podcast describing trends in civil partnership over the last five years
In order to ensure that our customers receive direct notification about these publications, ONS will send out a quarterly email providing links to all of our articles and outputs released in the previous three months, and details of those scheduled for the next three months.
This email will be sent out in March, June, September and December each year.
